Bassie & Adriaan on VHS is pure Dutch childhood nostalgia. This beloved duo — clown Bassie and acrobat Adriaan — starred in a series of adventure shows from the early 80s through the 90s that were appointment viewing for an entire generation of Dutch kids. Their VHS tapes were among the most-rented and most-purchased children’s videos in the Netherlands, and the titles like De Plaaggeest, De Diamant, and De Huilende Professor still trigger instant recognition.

These tapes are collectible as cultural artifacts of Dutch childhood in the VHS era. While the shows have been released on DVD and are available digitally, the original VHS editions carry nostalgic value that digital formats simply cannot replicate. Early releases, complete box sets, and tapes with original sleeve artwork are the most sought after. The collector base is almost entirely Dutch and Belgian, which keeps the market tight and community-driven.

When buying, check the tape condition carefully. VHS tapes degrade over time, especially when stored in damp or warm conditions. Mold inside the cassette housing is the biggest risk — it can spread to other tapes and damage VCR heads. The sleeve or case artwork should be clean and intact, as this is what gives the tape its display value. Make sure you are getting the correct edition: some titles were re-released multiple times with different cover art, and earlier releases are generally more desirable.
