Commodore 1084 Monitor

1985–1989

About this item

The Commodore 1084 is the monitor that defined the Amiga experience. Released in 1986, this 14-inch color display was designed as the perfect companion for the Amiga 500 and 1000, supporting both composite and RGB input. Its ability to display the Amiga full color palette with crisp, vibrant output made it the go-to choice for an entire generation of home computer users across Europe.

The 1084 is collectible because it is the authentic way to experience Commodore Amiga software today. Emulation and modern displays can approximate the look, but nothing matches the actual CRT phosphor glow and scan line rendering of an original 1084. The monitor has also found a second life among retro gaming enthusiasts who use it with consoles via its composite and S-Video inputs. Good working units are getting scarcer every year as CRTs fail and get discarded.

When buying, power it on and check for a stable image with accurate colors — the most common issues are faded red/green guns and geometry distortion. Listen for any crackling sounds from the flyback transformer. The 1084 came in several revisions (1084, 1084S, 1084S-P) with slightly different input configurations, so verify which version you are getting and whether it matches your setup. Check that the front panel controls work smoothly and that the speaker produces clean audio. These monitors are heavy and fragile to ship, so local pickup is always preferred.
