Windows 2000 Professional, released in February 2000, was Microsoft's most stable and reliable operating system of its era. Built on the NT kernel, it brought enterprise-grade reliability to the desktop and became the foundation for Windows XP. It was widely adopted in corporate environments and among power users who valued stability over consumer features.

Retail boxed copies of Windows 2000 Professional are the primary collectible. The full retail edition in the distinctive blue and white box with holographic certificate is the most sought-after version. Server editions (Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server) exist but are niche. European editions in Dutch, German, French, and Italian surface regularly on Vinted and Marktplaats.

When buying secondhand, check for the holographic certificate of authenticity and ensure the product key is legible. The original CD should be present and scratch-free. Complete-in-box copies with the getting started guide and registration card carry a premium. Sealed copies are uncommon and command higher prices — verify the shrink wrap is factory original.
