Namco G-Con 45 Light Gun (PS1)
About this item
The Namco G-Con 45 (known as the GunCon in Japan and North America) is the light gun that brought arcade-quality aiming to the PlayStation 1. Released in 1995–1996 and bundled with Time Crisis, it used a yellow composite video sync connector alongside the controller port to achieve pixel-level accuracy by reading CRT electron beam scanning.
It was so good that third-party developers widely adopted it beyond Namco's own titles, making it the de facto standard PS1 light gun. Compatible games include Time Crisis, Point Blank 1–3, Resident Evil Survivor (PAL/JP only), Elemental Gearbolt, and more.
The critical thing collectors need to know: it only works on CRT televisions. The technology is fundamentally incompatible with LCD, OLED, or plasma displays. Check that the yellow sync connector is present and functional, and that the trigger feels crisp — mushy triggers indicate wear or counterfeits. Boxed bundles with Time Crisis carry a premium.
