Sega Master System
About this item
The Sega Master System was Sega's 8-bit answer to the NES, launching in 1987 across Europe where it actually outsold Nintendo in several markets. With its sleek black-and-red design and a built-in game (depending on the version), the Master System carved out a loyal following — especially in Europe, Brazil, and Australia.
Collectors prize the Master System for its underdog status and surprisingly strong library. Titles like Phantasy Star, Wonder Boy III, and Alex Kidd in Miracle World are genuinely excellent games that often get overlooked in the NES-dominated retro conversation. The console itself is a looker on any shelf.
When buying, check that both controller ports work and test the card slot (not just the cartridge slot). Yellowing on the top shell is common. Complete-in-box units with the light gun and 3D glasses adapter command serious premiums. Make sure the RF or AV cables are included — aftermarket replacements exist but original accessories add value.
