Sony PVM Monitor

1990–1999

About this item

The Sony PVM (Professional Video Monitor) is the holy grail of retro gaming displays. Originally designed for broadcast TV studios and post-production suites in the 80s and 90s, PVMs use the same Trinitron CRT technology as Sony's flagship BVM monitors but at a fraction of the cost. Their RGB inputs, ultra-low input lag, sharp scanlines, and vivid colour reproduction make them the gold standard for displaying classic consoles like the SNES, Mega Drive, and Saturn the way they were meant to be seen.

Multiple model lines exist — the PVM-9000 series (9-14"), PVM-2000 series (20"+), and PVM-2030/2730/2950 series. The 14" and 20" models are the most desirable for retro gaming setups. As these monitors get older and harder to find, prices have steadily climbed. Working units trade between €175 and €600, with rare large-format and pristine examples reaching €1000 and beyond.

RetroMarketCap tracks live Sony PVM prices across Vinted, Marktplaats, and eBay in the Netherlands and Europe.
