3dfx Voodoo 2 12MB

1995–1999

About this item

The 3dfx Voodoo 2 12MB was the card that defined PC gaming in 1998. As a dedicated 3D-only accelerator, it sat alongside your regular 2D video card and transformed games like Quake II and Unreal into something that felt genuinely next-generation. The 12MB version was the higher-spec model, and two of them could be linked together in SLI for even more performance — the original multi-GPU setup.

The Voodoo 2 is a holy grail for retro PC collectors. 3dfx became a legend before being acquired and dissolved by Nvidia, and their hardware carries a cult following that only grows with time. The Voodoo 2 in particular represents the peak of the Glide API era, when 3dfx owned PC gaming. Working cards are essential for anyone building an authentic late-90s retro gaming rig, and the 12MB version is the one to have.

When buying, make sure you are getting the 12MB variant and not the more common 8MB version — check the chip layout and the number of memory modules on the PCB. Test the card if possible; capacitor aging can cause instability or artifacts. Check for obvious damage like blown capacitors (bulging tops), bent pins on the PCI connector, or burn marks. The original box and driver CD are rare bonuses. If you plan to run SLI, you will need two cards from the same manufacturer with matching clock speeds.
