The VTech PC Pal is a children's educational computer from 1988 that taught kids typing, spelling, and basic math through a tiny keyboard and a single-line LCD display. It was one of those toys that made you feel like you were using a real computer — and for many kids, it was their first time touching a keyboard at all.

Collector interest comes from the vintage educational tech niche, which has been growing as 80s kids revisit childhood memories. VTech devices from this era have a distinct design language — chunky plastic, bold colors, satisfying clicky keys — that photographs beautifully and displays well on a shelf.

Check that the keyboard responds on all keys and the LCD displays cleanly without missing segments. Battery compartment corrosion is the most common issue. Complete-in-box examples are uncommon since the packaging was usually destroyed on Christmas morning, so finding one with the original box is a genuine score.
